I just had such a great sesh out at Deer Island in Winthrop. I have been a windsport enthusiast for 20 years in these parts and I had never checked this spot, 25 minutes from my house. I played in the point break forever - Wow! Thanks guys for leading me to the path of enlightenment.

Jean

Re: Why Masskiting rules

Jean after some bad vibes in other communities I am happy to say that it is really all about friends and surrounding yourself with the right people regardless of the website ect I was happy as hell to see yah.. We have made a group long ago and I like to believe we are all still assembled. MIss Chris who you prob didnt meet as he moved to CA. But I think about kiting and I love the feeling of seeing people that share the same activity on the craziest of conditions or quick sessions meets. But somehow kiting has actually given me best friends.. not just some guys I know but we really hang out wind or not(skunked probably)

Sorry to get sentimental but I was riding soem waves with Jermy and I thought this kid is not just a buddy I know from kiting.. I take good part in watching and seeing how much he's enjoying himself. I apprecaite people like you Jean I really do you call a spade a spade and not afraid to say so!!

What would making progress be without people you know to share with.. otherwise in the world of kiting its not so important but amougst friends theres gold in it!!!

My dad coached baseball for ma and long after I grew up. He never one much expcpet one great year they took it. He was pres of the commitee!! But he taught me to never worry about winning but cheer on your friends and take part in there success's be a team. In the end you take teh experince. I think Im allot like my dad... I know good people when I meet them!! No matter what level there at!

Cheers man!!!

Re: Why Masskiting rules

Interesting that last bit you wrote about coaching baseball. I have been very involved with Youth Soccer in my town, my kids love it. I was about to step up as president of the league, and I got a dressing down at the board meeting from people who trashed me and our program because we were not winning tournaments, and therefore kids were going over to other sports in town that were winning, most notably field hockey . I had been clear about how I measured our success: 500 kids every week coming out to play, get sweaty and smile after the game, practice, scrimmage. I was decimated for downplaying winning in favor of just playing. I resigned in disgust the next morning.

I'm not doing handle passes, but I was shredding in that small point break today, I took some spills, I pushed my own limits without wrecking my body or taking the fun out of the experience. To me, that is athleticism - and honestly, it is what keeps me sane in this crazy world.

Peace, brother.

I was really fired up that so many of us were there to enjoy a great morning in such less than inviting conditions.
I actually felt bad when I was derigging the first time when Jean was just going out. Then when I parked and was watching everyone I knew I had to get back out and enjoy the rest of the morning. Life was too good out there it was just too much fun.
Again thanks everyone!

Re: Why Masskiting rules

Well in my town my brother was doing poorly in high school at the time(now succesful in college). The mentality was to remove football from the student. Can you imagine that!! Whats the message. Bad study habits from parting and goofing hanging with friends getting into trouble an being influenced by those who are not trying. Because with the team you have a mentor a coach, a group of peers who are trying to achieve soemthing that is hard that takes dicipline, commitment, and respect for others. That there my friends is the key to unlocking the door. Plus they meet every day under adult supervision. Its amazing my brother wanted that for himself!!! But instaed he was told go away cop-out give up. Go hang and get in trouble unsupervised and get peerpressured by those with no self respect..

Makes me sick!! My dad dealt with that too as you descibed even got threatened to trade a kid or else!!! I love what you have with your kids! I love that you would donate your time.. Much harder than only being the complainer parent that is so self serving they dont have time..

God love yah man.. Your kids have a great dad who is damn cool they'll learn the world through you as you are very diversified!!! because it is being given to them at every opp.. never stop!!!

I 'll never forget my dad's message of good values makes a ballfield a life long love for it.. Loose twice get yelled at or have your parents get pissed at your coach you got a kid with no hope no values to self seek these activities in the future for there own self fullfilment and networking.. That is why I like the fact we moved this community here.. Like my dad we will all make sure this experience belongs to us all.. No matter what each of us wants or takes from it.. Is free, fun, and I hope to have life long friends out of it regardless of ever being a great kiter or a love for the game.. look what we have done!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MASSkiting is here to show values and experinces of friends regardless of anything else!!!

Yes, Julia. Almost 10. She thinks these adventure sports are for psychos.

Amazing how warm it was on the water too. Usually NorthEast wind is butt cold, like that day at Chatham Light.

Re: Why Masskiting rules

MassKiting ROCKS!!! Sad I missed this morn but im all free next week so with some wind prayers i hope to see yall out there soon!!!!

I have to say just how awesome it is that there is such a great group of people that make up this site. I decided to get into kitesurfing the beginning of this summer and I had NO idea what I was getting myself into. First of all, I had only seen it done once (being from St. Louis, not too much shoreline there), and I thought it was the kind of thing I could pick up in a few days. So not only did i have no idea that I was getting into one of the most dynamic sports I can think of besides skiing, I was amazed at the helpfulness and closeness of the kiting community here in MA.
For example, last week I was out with Jeremy on a chilly day at Dux and once he finished showing off his mad skills he came back and helped tommy and I get out. After he saw I was getting into some trouble with the gusty onshore wind he got in the water and held me down while i flopped around in the water getting my board on. It just made me realize how selfless yall are and how I have since learned that the essence of kitesurfing goes so far beyond a kite and a board, but can be found in the pre session silence of wind/wave watching, or the beers shared on the beach post sesh. Yall are awesome, and i look forward to meeting those who I have not yet, and sharing many great experiences on and off the water, year-round.

CHEERS!!
